A drone-based answer to extend the effectiveness of customs management of the State Income Service of Latvia – Drones Information
Riga, Latvia – August 31, 2020 – Mondot is supplying the State Revenue Service of the Republic of Latvia with a complex, drone-based solution for remote monitoring and surveillance of the borders and the port area. This is the first time drones are used in Latvia to improve the effectiveness of customs controls and the prevention of smuggling.
With the UgCS CC software solution, a high-quality video stream with low latency can be transmitted from the drone not only to the operator’s ground control software via a secure mobile 4G / LTE connection, but also to the operations center. With UgCS CC it is possible to record geo-referenced videos and stream them live into video management software (VMS) in order to efficiently secure and remedy possible illegal activities. It will help the State Revenue Service manage the video stream from the drone as easily as the stationary video stream from traditional surveillance cameras, and it will give experts the ability to monitor locations from the office.
The solution consists of a drone control software UgCS CC developed by SPH Engineering, a high-performance flying UAV platform from the Finnish company VideoDrone, which is equipped with high-resolution surveillance cameras, as well as the Milestone ® XProtect video management system and a configured hardware platform (workstations / server) that can be used for a successful operation of Mondot, the solution provider.
The UgCS CC software is based on the universal ground control software UgCS and offers a comprehensive planning and flight control toolset for a variety of automatic drone missions for complex scenarios. UgCS CC offers the possibility to transmit live video streams not only to the RC of the drone pilot, but also to any location without the need for surveillance experts to be physically at the inspected location.
The Latvian State Tax Service indicated that this is a new approach to customs controls that has not yet been used in Latvia. The drone-based solution is implemented with financial support from the European Commission’s Hercule III program, managed by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), which aims to promote activities against fraud, corruption and other illegal activities that affect financial interests of the EU concern the European Union.
