UAVenture has partnered with SUIND to offer AirRail and drone manufacturers an advanced obstacle avoidance system based on computer vision. The SUIND system becomes a central part of the AirRails autopilot, taking spraying and sowing of plants to the next level while reducing the burden on the owner / operator.

SUIND’s vision system was integrated into the AirRails autopilot in 2020 to leverage the power of computer vision technology for the spraying industry and enable drones to autonomously detect and avoid obstacles during a spraying mission. In addition, it offers GPS-independent precision at the centimeter level, which significantly increases accuracy, reduces drift, and increases resistance to GPS errors and interference.

More importantly, the system was designed and tested to operate at the speeds required for typical crop spraying operations, rather than the snail’s pace at which many experimental systems operate.

Having an industry-level vision system on board brings a number of benefits to the operation of crop sprayers and seed drones, including:

  • Detection of trees, poles and other obstacles occurring along or near the mission path
  • Dynamic route planning that is constantly updated to give the autopilot millisecond avoidance guidance that can be used to navigate the drone around the obstacle and back to the flight plan
  • Extremely simple planning in which only the region to be sprayed needs to be set and the position of obstacles no longer needs to be marked
  • Spraying operations where manual planning around a large number of obstacles is not practical or possible, such as B. Shade trees on tea plantations
  • Efficient coverage and increased safety by avoiding the inaccuracy of manual GPS-based georeferencing of obstacles

The trials will be switched to harvest sprayers with a capacity of 10 liters in September. The first beta test phase in Asia will begin early in the fourth quarter of 2020. We will also shortly be announcing ready-to-fly, vision-capable crop spray drones that will be introduced by a “first”. Adopter “manufacturer in October 2020.
