American Made Swift Excessive-Altitude-Lengthy-Endurance UAS Completes Landmark First Flight – Drones Information
Received both NASA airworthiness certificate and FAA approval certificate
In collaboration with NASA’s Ames Research Center, Swift Engineering’s unmanned high altitude flight system (HALE) has completed its maiden flight. The only platform in its class manufactured in the USA, the Swift flight team, carried out a complete system check and validated the vehicle configuration for continuous surveillance missions at high altitude.
In cooperation with NASA, the successful flight tests took place at New Mexico Spaceport America. The Swift HALE UAS was developed for unmanned operation at 70,000 feet and offers 24-hour operation in the upper atmosphere for commercial and military surveillance, surveillance, communication and security applications. The 72-foot solar powered aircraft is an inexpensive alternative to satellites and weighs less than 180 pounds. It can safely carry up to 15 pounds of payload for missions.
Swift HALE UAS has received two technology patents, airworthiness certificates from NASA, and the FAA Certificate of Approval (COA), which allows unmanned aircraft to fly in commercial airspace.
