Job overview:

ESAero is looking for an aerospace engineer with experience in systems security engineering for our team in San Luis Obispo, CA. This engineer will assist in the development and support of aircraft and system safety assessment activities for unique all-electric and hybrid-electric aircraft configurations. Responsibilities include both qualitative and quantitative assessments of system security in accordance with standard aerospace industry practices – including, but not limited to, functional hazard assessment, failure mode and impact analysis, and lifetime reliability analysis. The engineer is expected to perform safety assessment tasks under the direction of a project systems safety manager.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Support in the development of documents on aircraft systems and requirements at the item level
  • Assistance in developing the planning of the safety assessment process
  • Developing and conducting activities for the development of aircraft for safety assessment
  • Perform the safety assessment tasks as directed by the team leader
  • Report progress to the team leader regularly
  • Collaborate with third-party engineers
  • Interface with industry experts for safety assessment and aircraft certification

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • Familiar with conceptual and preliminary design activities of aircraft
  • Familiarity with a variety of aircraft systems including, but not limited to: propulsion, thermal management, electrical, avionics, and fire suppression systems
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations 14 CFR Part 23/25, 27/29
  • Ready to move to San Luis Obispo, CA.
  • U.S. citizens

Desirable qualifications and skills:

  • Masters degree in aerospace engineering or a related field
  • 4+ years of relevant technical experience
  • Previous experience with top-down safety development and validation processes, identification of aircraft functions and functional safety analysis
  • Familiarity with aircraft development safety analysis processes including, but not limited to: FHA, PSSA, CCA, FTA, FMEA, ZSA
  • Familiarity with quantitative analysis methods for flight safety, including but not limited to: Basic analysis of component and system reliability, MTTFF, MTBF, failure rates
  • Experience with dedicated tools for analyzing system reliability
  • Experience with propulsion technology for electric aircraft
  • Familiarity with SAE Aerospace’s recommended practical guidelines and methodologies, particularly ARP4761 and ARP4754A
  • Familiarity with additional FAA regulations 14 CFR Part 33, 35, 36, 121, 135
