MJX Bugs 20 vs Bugs 12: Which is the most effective drone for you?
Last month, MJX released two new Bugs series drones called the B20 and B12. To be honest, their model numbering is a bit confusing. Although you’d expect a higher number to mean a newer model, the Bugs12 was announced after the Bugs20.
In terms of size and weight, these are two MJX R / C drones are very similar. With extended arms, the Bugs12 measures 440 x 400 x 81 mm and the Bugs20 measures 380 x 380 x 125 mm. As both drones weigh almost 500 grams, FAA registration is required.

While both bugs are operated with the same battery (2 cells / 3400 mAh), the B12 has a flight time that is 2 minutes longer than the B20. In my opinion, the difference in battery life may be due to the Bugs20 using faster motors (1620 kV vs 1500 kV). According to the manufacturer’s specifications, both drones have a range of around 600 meters and an FPV range of 450 meters.
Instead of mechanical stabilization with two or three axes, MJX opted for electrical image stabilization (EIS) for the B20 and B12. Nevertheless, the design of the cameras is very different, both have a 1/3 “CMOS sensor. Both can record locally (integrated micro SD card) with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 @ 30fps or 1080P @ 60fps.
