Initial and continuing education.

Able Flight has been providing flight training scholarships for people with physical disabilities since 2006 and has expanded the program in recent years to include scholarships that support training for a variety of aviation careers. In its 14-year history, Able Flight has awarded over 110 scholarships for flight training and flight careers.

Charles Stites, Executive Director of Able Flight, commented, β€œWith the growth of unmanned aviation and the positive outlook for career opportunities in commercial drone operations, we have decided that this is a good time to add a UAS scholarship option to our professional education. As with the institutions teaching recipients of our flight training grants, we partner with organizations like USI that have developed programs that go well beyond the minimum standards required by the FAA. “

“The inherent demands of unmanned aviation could provide significantly greater career opportunities for people with physical disabilities,” added Josh Olds, president of the Unmanned Safety Institute. “When we first became familiar with Able Flight, it was clear that their focus on pilot safety and competence would translate into incredibly talented, industry-mature UAS pilots through their participation in the USI training program.”
