Silvus Develops LPI/LPD Waveform for US Military – Drones Information


Tactical radio to provide LPI / LPD enhancements to the Warfighter

Silvus Technologies, Inc. was recently awarded an OPTION Funding from the US Army C5ISR Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland as part of a research and development project. The contract, valued at over $ 2 million, is titled Protected Communications for Manned / Unmanned Teams, or PCM. The project aims to develop high-throughput, secure and unobservable communication skills for manned / unmanned teaming operations.

As part of the PCM contract, Silvus developed a waveform that enables improved LPI / LPD operation. As part of the current OPTION effort, Silvus is integrating many of its recently developed functions to operate in conjunction with the LPI / LPD functions of the PCM waveform.

These include:

  1. The Silvus MANET Interference Avoidance Module (MAN-IA) enables tactical radios to change their operating frequency when communication is affected by interference
  2. The new MANET Interference Cancellation (MAN-IC) module from Silvus enables tactical radios to spatially filter out interference
  3. The new MANET-Power Control (MAN-PC) module from Silvus enables the radios to control their transmission power in order to enable more discreet communication

“It will be a robust waveform running on Silvus’ StreamCaster radios, combining a powerful suite of anti-jam and LPI / LPD functions to enable the warfighter to communicate robustly and securely in crowded and competitive environments . “

Silvus Technologies is the developer of the MN-MIMO (Mobile Networked MIMO) waveform, a MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc Networking) feature that leverages the latest advances in MIMO technology to improve throughput and robustness. This function is at the heart of the Silvus StreamCaster radios, a family of MIMO-enabled tactical radios. It was recently selected as the MANET radio solution for Phase 2 of the NGCV RCV (Next Generation Combat Vehicle Robotic Combat Vehicle) program with a contract value of approximately USD 3 million.

The PCM efforts are expected to continue through the fall of 2020 and culminate in a series of field demonstrations. Silvus will continue to expand the technology to bring these new features to market quickly.
