Skydio Introduces The New X2 Household of Drones and Breakthrough Autonomy Software program For Situational Consciousness and Inspection – Drones Information
Skydio, the leading US drone manufacturer and world leader in autonomous flight technology, today announced the upcoming availability of a new autonomous drone platform for businesses and the public sector Skydio X2. Skydio also announced several new software solutions that simplify inspections and situational awareness workflows: Skydio Autonomy Enterprise Foundation, Skydio 3D Scan, and Skydio House scan. These software technologies, which are also available on Skydio 2, are part of the company’s accelerated product roadmap for the corporate and government markets and were announced together today with $ 100 million in Series C. Financing.
Despite the enormous potential of drones, their acceptance by companies remains limited. In a recent survey, 55% of corporate users said that the risk of falling was the primary concern of traditional manual drones, followed by the hiring of experienced pilots and concerns about data security. The productivity losses and security problems caused by manual drones are preventing companies from scaling their programs.
“Manual drones lack the software intelligence that companies need to scale their programs,” said Adam Bry, CEO of Skydio. “Skydio’s goal is to unlock the value of drones by creating a radically simple user experience through the power of real autonomy. With Skydio 2 (S2), we have proven that our autonomy software can fundamentally change the way people use drones and that an American company is not only competitive, but also a leader in AI-based drone technology can be. We are now bringing the power of autonomy to businesses, government agencies, first responders and defense customers. ”
Skydio autonomy is the AI-powered brain built into every Skydio drone. Our autonomy technology enables a groundbreaking flight experience and can be expanded with specialists Software knowledge End-to-end automation of complex workflows. Using advanced computer vision and in-depth learning, a 3D real-time understanding of the drone’s environment is created and future predictions are made to make smart decisions. With Skydio Autonomy, Skydio drones can fly themselves with the skills of an experienced pilot. It can also serve as an experienced copilot, turning anyone into an experienced operator, while Skydio Autonomy dynamically controls the drone’s navigation to avoid obstacles even in non-GPS environments.
Thanks to these unsurpassed autonomy functions, the Skydio 2 is already used by companies and government agencies. Today, leading organizations like Civil Air Patrol, Ohio Department of Transportation, North Carolina Department of Transportation, Southern Company, PD Chula Vista and Japanese Infrastructure Signpost Use the S2 to simplify data collection in inspection, search and rescue cases, situational awareness and use cases for emergency measures.
To meet a wider range of business needs and use cases, Skydio today announced a new line of drones and several software products for situation detection and inspection, including:
Skydio X2. Built for companies. Ready for service.
Skydio X2 is a new product family that combines groundbreaking autonomy software with a robust airframe with folding arms for easy transport on the go, a thermal imager and a flight time of up to 35 minutes. The X2 is equipped with six 4k navigation cameras to avoid obstacles around 360 degrees and a payload with two sensors, which includes 12MP color and 320 × 256 LWIR sensors. The X2 was developed, assembled and supported in the USA and transforms everyone into an experienced pilot. It will initially be available in two configurations:
- Skydio X2D, The X2D was developed to meet the requirements of the SRR (Short-Range Reconnaissance) for the US Army. It is the ultimate military and defense solution to conduct reconnaissance, search, rescue and security patrol missions.
- Skydio X2E, The X2E is optimized for companies, first aiders and civilians and is the ideal solution for situational awareness and the inspection of infrastructures such as buildings, bridges, power plants, power plants and freight railways. Thanks to Skydio’s autonomous navigation technology, you can fly safely at close range to collect more accurate data than with conventional manual drones.
Like Skydio 2, X2 drones also contain the Skydio Autonomy Core, Skydio’s world-leading flight AI engine. By default, X2 users benefit from autonomous navigation with 360-degree obstacle avoidance in real time, object detection and motion prediction.
X2 is combined with the new enterprise class Skydio Enterprise Controller With an integrated touchscreen, glove-compatible controls and a new wireless system to extend the range up to 6.2 kilometers.
The X2 products will be available in the fourth quarter of 2020
“We tested Skydio drones extensively for search and rescue missions. Skydio’s autonomy enabled us to perform better operations more efficiently. Your trustworthy avoidance of obstacles enables us to perform flights at low altitudes and in complex urban environments that we otherwise could not. The ease of flight that Skydio drones offer enables us to get new pilots on board faster. We’re excited to hear about Skydio’s plans for X2 and look forward to adding them to our fleet. Austin Worcester, Senior Program Manager, Small Unmanned Flight Systems at Civil Air Patrol
Skydio Autonomy Enterprise Foundation
The Skydio Autonomy Enterprise Foundation extends Skydio’s core autonomy system with powerful pilot support functions that make every flight safer and more efficient, from beginners to experienced operators. Features are:
- 360 super zoom for maximum situational awareness at 360 degrees. Superzoom combines the drone’s seven on-board cameras so that the pilot can see in all directions while flying, and offers up to 100x digital zoom with high video resolution and electronic image stabilization.
- Precision mode For maximum control during detailed inspections or tactical situation awareness in dense, challenging environments without GPS. The Skydio autonomy motor can be set so that it responds to controller inputs with high precision and flies safely in the immediate vicinity of obstacles (0.5 meters). These controls allow the operator to fly safely in the tightest of spaces and get the job done faster.
- Vertical view to take pictures by looking straight up. Combined with Skydio Autonomy’s obstacle avoidance technologies, users can focus on overhead inspection targets instead of dedicating their inspection camera to avoiding obstacles.
Skydio 3D scan. Autonomous inspection of industrial structures
3D Scan is the first universal digital scan software of its kind for the inspection of complex industrial structures and locations such as bridges, building facades, energy infrastructure, accident and crime scenes. It is powered by a new real-time 3D visual reconstruction layer at the Skydio Autonomy Enterprise Foundation.
In contrast to inspection with manual drones, Skydio 3D Scan enables a fully automatic, structure-independent process that does not require any prior knowledge of the structure inspected and can be operated in environments without GPS or without an Internet connection. The operator can specify the area or volume to be inspected, select a desired image resolution and the AI-powered Skydio 3D scan does the rest. All surfaces are autonomously and precisely mapped by dynamically creating a real-time map in flight. The resulting images have no gaps in the captured data and are optimized to ensure effective photogrammetry.
Thanks to the avoidance of obstacles in the immediate vicinity of Skydio and the gimbal movement over the entire area, Skydio 3D Scan can be used to closely examine every structure, including inclines and concavities, and to examine areas that are inaccessible to other drones, e.g. B. the bottom of bridges, walls and overhangs and ground-level details.
Skydio 3D Scan will be available for both S2 and X2 in the fourth quarter of 2020.
