The Future Flight Challenge (FFC) will enable the UK to develop, use and export new, greener flight methods by making advances in electric and autonomous flight technology. We are looking for someone to join our innovation team to aid in the implementation of the CAA response to the FFC through your contribution of highly developed knowledge, experience, advice and expertise.

The role

You act as a clerk who guides and supports innovators in the direction of regulatory readiness, guides innovators with the aim of exchanging knowledge and recommending future regulatory frameworks.

You will help have a say in the UK and lead a new revolution in aviation by bringing together electrification, digitization and autonomy technologies to develop new air travel modes and capabilities.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Work with innovators to plan roadmaps to achieve the FFC’s goals
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on regulatory expectations to ensure safety and consumer protection
  • Facilitate discussions and drive solutions between industry and regulatory teams to gain regulatory approval to test innovative solutions
  • Facilitate testing in a sandbox environment to provide evidence for regulatory approvals for studies
  • Contribute to the creation of regulatory principles, standard scenarios and templates

About you

Expertise in an aviation specialist such as airspace, airworthiness, air traffic management, artificial intelligence, new propulsion technologies, UAS, software development or flight operations would be desirable.

We’d like to hear from you if you’re interested in technology and innovation in areas such as airspace integration, urban air mobility, electrification and battery technologies, and digitization and automation.

Applying a risk-based and principle-based approach, which currently has no standards or regulations, is essential.

Planning and prioritizing cases across multiple partners, the ability to understand challenges with new aviation technologies, and being flexible and adaptable are some of the key skills you will need.

For this job you will need to travel to Innovators who can be located across the UK and internationally if travel restrictions have been lifted and it is safe to do so.

Given the impact of Covid-19, it is likely that you will initially work remotely as we plan to return to work under government guidelines.
