Walmart Now Piloting On-Demand Drone Supply with Flytrex – Drones Information
Years ago, our founder, Sam Walton, said, “I’ve always strived to resist the system, innovate and get things where they were.” It remains a guiding principle at Walmart to this day – from an early pioneer of universal barcodes and electronic cash registers to our work on autonomous vehicle delivery, we are working to understand how these technologies can affect the future of our business, helping us our Better serve customers.
In our most recent initiative, we’re investigating how drones can deliver items in a convenient, safe, and quick-guessing manner. Today we’re taking the next step in our exploration of on-demand delivery by announcing a new pilot with Flytrex, an end-to-end drone delivery company.
The pilot takes off from Fayetteville, North Carolina today and focuses on delivering select groceries and household items from Walmart stores using Flytrex automated drones. The drones, controlled via the cloud using an intelligent and simple control dashboard, help us gain valuable insights into the customer and employee experience – from picking and packaging to launch and delivery.
We know it will take time for millions of packages to be delivered by drone. This still feels like a bit of science fiction, but we’ve got to a point where we’re learning more and more about the technology available and how we can use it to make our customers’ lives easier. Take, for example, our autonomous vehicle work with Gatik, Ford and Nuro – we have gained a lot of valuable insights into how autonomous vehicles fit into our business.
Ultimately, it is the insights of pilots like this that will help shape the potential of drone delivery on a larger scale and, true to our founder’s vision, take Walmart beyond where we have been.
Flytrex ushers in a new era of on-demand delivery of drones. Flytrex offers an autonomous drone delivery service direct to the consumer that enables retailers to incorporate faster, safer and cheaper deliveries than ever before.
From setting new safety standards for drones to helping regulations evolve to meeting the ever-changing needs of retailers and consumers, Flytrex offers a future for easier, faster, and greener autonomous air delivery. The Flytrex team, headquartered in Tel Aviv, has more than 50 years of aerospace and defense experience.
